A few weeks ago, texture educator, curl specialist, and CEO of Avaluxe Naturals, Bebe Michelle, shared her #miladyprotips with us on Instagram. We sat down with her recently to learn more about her story and how her career has skyrocketed in such a short amount of time.
Bebe: When I decided to stop relaxing my hair back in 2010 a lot changed. It was through embracing my naturally curly hair that I decided to start my own all-natural hair/body care line from scratch. I had become extremely passionate about helping others embrace and learn to maintain their curly hair. I started with doing hair, then it trickled into making all-natural hair and body products, then doing live demo seminars. Finally deciding to go to cosmetology school was the icing on the cake, and my career took off from there.
B: I am a Curl Specialist and Texture Educator with over 1,000 curly clients that come to my studio in Fort Lauderdale. I have also traveled to different cities to teach classes, host seminars, and speak on panels pertaining to textured hair care. In late 2016, I started and became the CEO of Avaluxe Naturals, a Salon-Quality hair product line with natural ingredients, formulated for curls, coils, kinks, and waves!
B: Honestly, I initially started my Instagram page to document my natural hair journey (since I had stopped relaxing my hair) and post inspirational photos of really long and/or really thick, naturally textured hair. My whole reason for doing this was because I had encountered a lot of women who just, straight up, did not believe naturally textured hair could grow very long; they just didn’t think it was possible! I also wanted to encourage people to embrace all of their natural beauty the way it was divinely created! It just blossomed from there and turned into a complete brand.
B: Be consistent! Keep up the momentum of your page and be yourself! People love relatability. They want to be able to connect with you on a personal level, and perhaps see themselves in you! It’s that whole concept of, “Wow I watched this girl’s whole journey. I remember when she was making her products out of her kitchen, look at her now!” It inspires people to step out and achieve their own goals because it gives people a sense of, “If she could do it, so can I.” Also, don’t forget to use hashtags and tag popular pages to your posts. This drives new followers to your page.
B: Oh my goodness. I’m extremely excited about expanding Avaluxe Naturals and adding new products to the line! We’ll soon have a full system including an incredibly moisturizing Sulfate-Free shampoo and conditioner, and an Intensely Hydrating Deep Treatment Masque that’ll BLOW. YOU. AWAY. I’ve worked so hard to develop the perfect formula with my team of chemists; products that truly hydrate naturally dry textured hair types, while still high-performance and lightweight! I’m super proud of my products and have been using them on almost all of my clients!
B: Think about your “why.” Why are you in this industry and how do you plan on making an impact and a difference? Write that down and never forget it. Keep striving every day with your “why” in mind and amazing things will happen. Don’t give up!
